The problem with most cases

An insulated bag is a black box. You put something in, you hope for the best, and the only feedback you get is whatever you can infer from touching it hours later. That's not much to go on.

What this does differently

A digital sensor sits in the lid and reads the temperature of the air inside the case. It displays that number on the outside. That's the whole idea — you find out what's happening without opening the case and undoing it.

The cooling itself

Two reusable gel packs, frozen. No batteries, no charging, no power source. The insulated liner slows heat getting in; the gel packs absorb what does. When they're spent, refreeze them.

The interior is moulded so the packs sit around the contents rather than pressed against them. This matters more than it sounds: something frozen solid against a pen can do as much damage as a hot car.

How long it holds

That depends entirely on where you are. A case in a shaded bag and a case on a sunlit dashboard are doing completely different jobs, and any single number quoted at you is measured in conditions you probably aren't in.

This is the honest answer, and it's also the reason the display exists. You don't have to take a manufacturer's figure on trust — freeze both packs solid, load it, and read what it's actually doing, where you actually are.

Getting the most out of it

  1. Freeze both packs overnight, not for an hour. A partly frozen pack does a fraction of the work.
  2. Seat one in the base and one in the lid recess so they sit around the contents.
  3. Close the zip fully — an open corner undoes the liner.
  4. Keep it out of direct sun. Insulation slows heat, it doesn't stop it.
  5. Check the display rather than guessing. That's what it's for.

What it isn't

It's not a fridge. It doesn't generate cold — it slows the loss of it. For anything that must stay refrigerated for days rather than hours, you want a powered unit, and we'd rather tell you that now than have you find out.
